Mass, the second time dimension—Physics without matter

What does it mean to square the time dimension? Is there a new magnitude only or is there a new dimension of physical reality? In the same way, we see three-dimensional space foreshortened on a two-dimensional photograph and we see the fifth dimension foreshortened in four-dimensional space-time. We experience it in the form of mass. Understanding mass as a dimension obviates the assumption of matter while explaining its apparent existence. Matter may be useful as an operational concept on the macroscopic level, but it is unnecessary and unworkable on the quantum level. The enigmas of quantum mechanics and relativity theory open a new light when the concept of matter no longer blocks the view.
